Solar that fits where a big system never would. The Solarfy Solo is a complete plug-in solar system on about two square metres: one full-black 455 W panel, a Hoymiles microinverter and a free-standing ballast frame. Set it up in a garden corner, on the patio or on a flat roof, plug it into an ordinary socket, and the things that run all day in your home (fridge, freezer, router, standby devices) start drawing on your own sunshine first.

Pre-order now. Deliveries start from 10 October 2026. Delivery cost depends on your postcode and is calculated at checkout.

✔ Officially registered · UK compliant

Listed on the ENA Connect Direct type-test register as a complete kit

The Solarfy Solo 455 is registered with the Energy Networks Association (ENA) under reference SOLAW/21640/V1 as a plug-in micro-generator, and it's designed to the UK Plug-in Solar Device Interim Product Specification v2.0. That means the complete kit (panel, inverter, mount and plug) is on the national register your network operator checks.

At a glance

  • 455 Wp of solar, up to 440 VA into your home. That's sized to cover the steady daytime baseload of a typical household.
  • Around 350–420 kWh a year of indicative UK generation from a south-facing site.
  • Most of it is used in your home. A single panel rarely produces more than your home is already using, so very little goes to waste.
  • Plug in and go. Plug-in solar has been legal for DIY installation in Great Britain since 27 August 2026, provided the product and the installation meet the rules. This kit was built to meet them.
  • Nothing drilled, nothing fixed. A free-standing frame at a fixed 20° tilt, held in place by ballast. When you move house, it comes with you.
  • ENA registered as a complete kit under reference SOLAW/21640/V1, which is the number your network operator asks for.

What could it save you?

Every unit of solar you use at home is a unit you don't buy from your supplier. Because the Solo's output is modest, most households use most of it directly, typically 70–90 %.

Indicative generation 350–420 kWh per year
Used in your home (typical) 70–90 %, about 245–380 kWh
Estimated saving per year around £65–£100
Estimated saving over 25 years around £1,600–£2,500 at today's prices

Estimates are based on the Ofgem price cap unit rate for October–December 2026 (26.32p/kWh, direct debit, GB average) and assume no change in electricity prices. Your actual saving depends on your location, orientation, shading, weather, tariff and how much electricity you use during the day.

How it works

The panel turns daylight into DC power. The Hoymiles microinverter, mounted on the frame, converts it into 230 V mains power and feeds it through the supplied UK plug into your socket. Your appliances use that power first, and any surplus flows back out to the grid. Nothing is stored. If the grid goes down, the inverter switches off within a fraction of a second. That's a required safety feature, and it means the system produces nothing during a power cut. You can follow what your system generates, live and over time, in the Hoymiles app over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Where it goes

  • Gardens, lawns and gravel on firm, level ground
  • Patios, yards and flat roofs that can carry the load

You'll need a free area of about 1.80 × 1.13 m with open sky to the south. The Solo is not designed for balcony railings, walls, façades or pitched roofs.

What's in the box

Your Solo arrives as three parts:

Solar panel

  • 1 × JA Solar JAM54D41-455/LB, 455 W, full-black n-type double-glass bifacial module

Mounting kit box

  • 1 × KSeng Zn-Al-Mg ballast mount set, 20° fixed tilt (2 leg sets)
  • M6 stainless flange bolts with nuts
  • 2 × 10 mm spanner

Accessories box

  • 1 × Hoymiles HMS-800-2WB (HiFlow 800 Pro) microinverter with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • 1 × AC connection lead with moulded UK plug (BS 1363) and 5 A fuse
  • 10 × UV-stable cable clips
  • Consumer-unit label
  • Illustrated assembly and user instructions, with Solo addendum

Not included: ballast. The frame is held down by weight, so you'll need 100–160 kg of concrete slabs or ballast blocks, depending on how exposed your site is. Standard paving slabs from any builders' merchant do the job, and the instructions include a simple table showing which figure applies to you.

Before you order

Plug-in solar is simple, and the rules are there for good reasons. Please check that:

  • You have a socket on a circuit protected by a working RCD or RCBO. An outdoor socket should be weatherproof (IP66) and fitted by an electrician.
  • No other plug-in solar device is, or will be, connected in your household.
  • The lead can reach the socket directly. Extension leads and adaptors are not allowed.
  • You have room for the 1.80 × 1.13 m footprint with open sky to the south.
  • If you rent, or own a leasehold flat, you have written permission from your landlord or freeholder.

After installing, you notify your network operator (DNO) within 28 days. It's a short online form, and the instructions walk you through it. It's also worth letting your home insurer know.

FAQ

Do I need an electrician?
Not for the installation itself, as long as your socket circuit already has RCD protection. If it doesn't, or you want a new outdoor socket, that part is a job for a registered electrician.

What do I need to set it up?
A second person, a spirit level, a tape measure and the two spanners in the box. The panel weighs 22 kg and needs two people to lift, and the step-by-step picture guide covers the rest.

Do I get paid for the electricity I export?
Don't count on it. Export payments under the Smart Export Guarantee usually require an MCS-certified installation, which a self-installed plug-in kit is not. With the Solo, very little is exported anyway, and the savings above only count the solar you use yourself.

Can I add a second panel later?
No. The Solo is registered as a one-panel device, and adding a module would take it outside that approval. If you want more output, choose the Duo.

Can I add a battery?
No. Under the current UK rules this kit must not be connected to or used with battery storage.

Solo or Duo?
The Solo suits smaller spaces and homes with a modest daytime baseload. If you have about 3.65 m of width and use more power during the day, the Duo produces roughly twice as much.

When will my pre-order ship?
Deliveries start from 10 October 2026. We'll email you tracking details as soon as your kit leaves our warehouse.

How much is delivery?
Delivery cost depends on your postcode, because the panel travels as a large, heavy item. You'll see the exact price at checkout before you pay.

How can I check the kit is compliant?
Look it up on the ENA Connect Direct register under SOLAW/21640/V1 (link above). Your network operator uses the same register when you notify them.
