Germany did this first. We were there.

Since 2022 we've shipped over 10,000 orders to German households, installers and trade customers — solar panels, inverters, batteries and balcony systems. Germany helped prove that plug-in solar can work at scale. Plug-in solar is now legal in the UK, and we're bringing that experience here.

Electricity generated
650 kWh a year

What this is based on

  • We assume 70% of what you generate is used in your home as it is generated.
  • Yield estimates: 2-Panel Kit about 650 kWh a year, 1-Panel Kit about 340 kWh a year, for a south-facing position with no shade.
  • Electricity you generate but don't use may be exported. We have not included any export payment in this estimate.

This is an estimate, not a guarantee. What you actually save depends on your position, shading, the weather and how much electricity you use during daylight hours. Figures are based on the assumptions above and are not a promise of performance or savings.

How it works

1

Connect and plug in

Fix the panels to your balcony, wall or patio, connect the inverter and plug it in.

3

Use it instantly

Plug-in solar is now legal in the UK

Plug-in solar kits that meet the UK requirements can now be used in the UK, except Northern Ireland. The exact kit must be listed on the ENA device register, connected as instructed and registered after installation.

Questions, answered

Is plug-in solar legal in the UK?

Yes. Plug-in solar kits that meet the UK requirements can now be used in the UK, except Northern Ireland. Check that the exact kit is listed on the ENA device register.

Current rules allow one plug-in solar kit per property, with a maximum AC output of 800W.

Do I need an installer?

Not normally. Follow the supplied instructions and plug the kit directly into a suitable fixed wall socket — never an extension lead or multi-way adaptor.

If your wiring is old, your fuse box has rewireable fuses, or you are unsure about the socket, ask a qualified electrician to check it first. Any new outdoor socket must be installed by a qualified electrician.

Do I need to tell my energy network operator?

Yes. After installation, register the kit using the official UK Plug-In Solar Registration service. This sends the details to your local electricity network operator.

Solarfy provides the product details and documents you need for registration.

How much could I save?

With our 460W kit, an indicative saving is around £55-£60 per year in a well-positioned, unshaded location. Actual savings depend on the direction and angle of the panels, local weather, electricity prices and how much solar electricity you use while it is being generated.

You’ll save the most by running everyday appliances during daylight hours. Electricity you don’t use may be exported to the grid, but payment for exported energy is not normally available without an eligible export tariff.

Does it work in a flat or rented home?

Potentially, yes. Plug-in solar can be a practical option for renters and flat owners, but you must obtain permission from your landlord, freeholder or building manager before buying or installing it.

You should also check your lease, planning requirements, building insurance and any fire-safety restrictions. Panels must only be installed on a suitable surface using the mounting system specified for that installation. Installation is not permitted on timber balconies or certain combustible cladding systems.

What's included in a kit?

A Solarfy kit includes:

  • Two lightweight, flexible solar panels with a combined rated output of 460W
  • One compatible inverter
  • One AC connection cable fitted with a UK plug
  • The required instructions, labels and documentation

Before connecting it, check that the exact kit is listed on the ENA device register and follow the supplied instructions.
